The textile work of twenty-two 4-H exhibitors ranging in age from 10 to 19 will be on display in the Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery for the 16th annual “Celebration of Youth.” The work was selected for its exceptional creativity, design and craftsmanship from the clothing, fashion revue and home environment exhibits at the 2009 Nebraska State Fair. The work of twelve alternates will also be on view in the Textile, Clothing and Design department.
On Saturday, December 5, the 4-H youth and their parents will join faculty from the textile department on East Campus for a day of educational and creative workshops followed by the exhibit’s closing reception. Exhibitors will present their work to the public in Room 11 in the Home Economics Building at 5:30, and the celebration will conclude with a reception in the gallery.
The “Celebration of Youth” is presented in recognition of the efforts of youth across Nebraska. As one of the Hillestad Gallery’s outreach programs, it exposes the participants to the university environment while giving them an opportunity to display their work in a professional gallery setting. The gallery is located on the University of Nebraska’s East Campus on the second floor of the Home Economics Building in Lincoln. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 4:00.
